Susvimo TGA Approved With Port Delivery

Susvimo (ranibizumab 100mg/mL, Roche)1 has been registered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for use with the already approved Contivue ocular implant.2 The registration enables the clinical application of Roche’s Port Delivery Platform (known as Contivue with Susvimo in Australia), introducing the nation’s first continuous drug-delivery system for neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).1,2,3

While the Contivue ocular implant was listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) earlier this year as a medical device,* registration of Susvimo1 provides the customised ranibizumab formulation1,3 designed specifically for use within it – bringing the complete delivery platform together for Australian clinicians and patients.

Susvimo is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) who have previously responded to at least two intravitreal anti-VEGF injections.3

Neovascular AMD affects an estimated 160,000 Australians over the age of 50 and is a leading cause of severe vision loss.4 Managing the condition requires ongoing therapy to maintain sight.4 While anti-VEGF intravitreal injections have significantly improved outcomes for patients, managing chronic retinal disease remains a lifelong commitment, and the ongoing burden of clinic travel and treatment fatigue remains a challenge for many.4

For suitable patients, the registration of Susvimo, administered through the surgically implanted Contivue, offers clinicians and patients an option designed to deliver continuous anti-VEGF release with refillexchange procedures administered every 24 weeks (approximately six months).3,5-7

Acknowledging that “fear of vision loss is often compounded by the burden of frequent clinic visits,” Dr Nic Horridge, General Manager, Roche Pharmaceuticals Australia said, “TGA registration represents an important step in delivering tailored options for Australians living with debilitating eye conditions”.

Roche Australia is pursuing reimbursement to facilitate equitable and affordable access for eligible patients.
