Medical trainees are encouraged to add to the evidence base to improve medical training in Australia, by completing the online Medical Training Survey (MTS).
The MTS is a longitudinal study that tracks the quality of medical training. Run by the Medical Board of Australia, stringent privacy controls make it safe and confidential.
The data are already in use – trainees can access past results to inform their choice of training sites and specialties, while hospitals and employers are using the data to identify hot spots and drive positive changes in training.
Medical Board Chair, Dr Susan O’Dwyer, said trainees doing the MTS “strengthen the value of a rare, searchable online dataset that you can use to benchmark your training options”.
“It’s your voice and your data. Do the MTS in 2025 and use the results to shape your future training choices,” she said.
Most MTS questions are consistent year to year, allowing comparisons between surveys, but in 2025, the MTS also asks most specialist trainees what phase of training they are in.
The MTS is open until 8 October. To complete the 2025 survey and access free, tailored reports from past years’ data visit: medicaltrainingsurvey.gov.au.
