Topcon Healthcare has taken a leading role in seed funding for OKKO Health, a UK-based software medical device company pioneering innovative approaches to vision testing and monitoring.
The investment underscores both companies’ shared commitment to transforming eye care by enabling patients to monitor their vision from home and facilitating more proactive engagement with their care teams between clinical visits.
OKKO Health’s platform represents a significant advancement in home-based, personalised eye care. Designed for use on patients’ personal smartphones without requiring external hardware, the system combines advanced vision science with data analytics and gamified user experiences to support ongoing self-monitoring between clinic appointments.
The technology empowers patients to protect their eye health by enabling early detection of subtle changes in visual function and facilitating timely re-engagement with eye care providers when clinical intervention may be warranted.
For patients with macular diseases and other chronic eye conditions, OKKO Health provides reassurance between in-office treatments while supporting care models influenced by longeracting injectable and implantable therapeutics. The accessible tool also helps patients stay connected with their vision health, enhancing outcomes and supporting clinic efficiency while helping eye care providers identify patients who require prompt evaluation.
Dr Stephanie Campbell, Founder and CEO of OKKO Health, said access to great vision care “begins with empowering patients to take an active role in monitoring their eye health”.
“OKKO Health’s vision tests, delivered through engaging puzzle games backed by strong vision science principles, make it easy for patients to track their real-world visual function. With Topcon Healthcare’s support, we’re excited to expand access and help ensure patients see their providers when it matters most.”
The investment aligns with Topcon Healthcare’s broader ‘Healthcare from the Eye’ initiative, which leverages ocular data and cloud-based platforms to identify and monitor both ocular and systemic disease.
Ali Tafreshi, CEO and President of Topcon Healthcare, said his company sees OKKO Health’s unique technology “as a powerful extension of our mission to deliver proactive, data-driven, and personalised eye care”.
“With OKKO Health, patients are more engaged in their care journey, and clinicians gain valuable visibility into vision changes over time.”
