Speckles, a new children’s vision care brand founded by Australian orthoptist Madeleine Scavone, has launched an exciting new range of eye patches featuring Disney Princess and Marvel characters.
The vibrant, character-themed patches aim to make amblyopia (‘lazy eye’) treatment more engaging for young patients. Approximately 2–3% of children are affected by this common vision condition, where one eye has reduced vision due to the brain favouring the stronger eye.
By patching the stronger eye, the weaker or ‘curious eye’ is prompted to develop better vision and binocular teamwork over time.
“Our mission is to remove any fear or stigma associated with wearing eye patches and empower all curious eyes on their vision journey,” said Ms Scavone. “With Disney’s help, we’re turning patch time into an adventure.”
But she said the collaboration with Disney is about more than eye patches. “It’s about raising awareness. Speckles wants parents everywhere to understand that it’s never too early to get their kids’ eyes tested.
Regular vision checks can set the foundation for better learning, development, and of course, adventure.”
With this aim, Speckles also provides resources to empower parents in supporting their child’s vision needs, and partners with Sightsavers to support the provision of essential vision screenings and services to disadvantaged countries.
The new eye patches are being sold through Chemist Warehouse stores and online.
