New CEO for Optometry Australia

Optometry Australia (OA) has commenced the new year with Mark Nevin as its Chief Executive Officer, following the departure of Skye Cappuccio.

Mr Nevin has held executive leadership positions across multiple peak bodies, including CEO of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH), Cancer Council Australia and, most recently, Lifestart Disability Services. His career has spanned governance, system redesign, regulatory affairs, and the adoption of new clinical and digital technologies – experience that makes him well-placed to support Optometry Australia’s forward priorities.

Before moving into executive leadership, Mr Nevin began his professional life as an optometrist in Ireland and the UK. He later oversaw policy and strategy for three UK optometry bodies and served on the Executive Committee of the European Council of Optometry and Optics, giving him deep insight into both clinical practice and the wider healthcare system.

OA President, Theo Charalambous, said the Board welcomed Mr Nevin into the role at a time when the organisation was entering an important period of transition.

“Mark brings extensive experience across the Australian and international health sectors, along with a strong understanding of the broader system settings that shape healthcare delivery,” Mr Charalambous said. “His background positions him well to provide steady guidance during this period while ensuring our work for the profession continues with momentum and clarity.”
