Medicare is now in its 50th year, and much has changed since rebates were first made available for eye care consultations via the federal government’s Health Department.
The past decade alone has seen a marked increase in Medicare usage by optometrists. And with the increase in both the overall and ageing populations, along with an expanding scope of professional practice, the demand for optometric services is expected to grow further.
According to Simon Hanna, Director of iCare Consulting, which consults to optometry practices, reviewing and understanding the latest Optometry MBS as well as the specifics of each item descriptor, is essential for billing appropriately.
Mr Hanna said maintaining copious and contemporaneous clinical records is also critical should a practice need to justify a specific billing instance or pattern to an audit committee or peers.
Join mivision and Mr Hanna this month, on Tuesday, 9 July at 6.30pm (AEST), when he presents a free live, case-based webinar, during which he will outline the different Medicare items for optometry, and how and when to use them.
Time permitting, there will also be an opportunity for a question-and-answer session.
