Super Eye Socks, created by Australian Society of Ophthalmologists (ASO) in collaboration with Swanky Socks, are now officially available to the public.
Katrina Ronne, CEO of the ASO, said the much loved, vibrant socks began as a members-only initiative but have now grown into something bigger, and more meaningful.
“ 15% of proceeds go directly to the Australian and New Zealand Eye Health Foundation ”
First designed as part of the ‘Crazy Socks 4 Docs’ campaign, raising awareness of doctors’ mental health, the socks quickly became a favourite among ophthalmologists.
“These socks have become a cheerful symbol of pride in our sight-saving profession, a conversation starter about eye health, and a gentle reminder that the wellbeing of clinicians matters too,” Ms Ronne said.
“We’ve seen them everywhere, from clinics and theatres to Parliament House and morning coffee runs. Wherever they go, they spark a conversation.”
With every pair sold, 15% of proceeds go directly to the Australian and New Zealand Eye Health Foundation (ANZEF), supporting vital initiatives that improve eye health and patient outcomes across Australia and New Zealand.
“At the same time, these socks carry an important message for medical professionals, shining a light on doctors’ mental health,” Ms Ronne explained. “Culture changes in small, consistent ways and sometimes, it starts with something as simple as a pair of socks.”
While the Super Eye motif may be playful, Ms Ronne said its purpose is serious, “supporting the work that helps keep Australians seeing clearly, and reminding us all that caring for patients and caring for practitioners should always go hand in hand”.
“We invite everyone to get involved: Purchase your own pair of Super Eye Socks or buy some for a friend or colleague – the perfect Christmas stocking filler or Secret Santa gift!
“We can’t wait to see where Super Eye goes next, one colourful step at a time.”
