Device Technologies
Device Technologies offers adaptable solutions for refractive surgeons. The Swiss- engineered Ziemer Femto LDV Z8¹ (pictured) is a compact, mobile femtosecond laser system designed for precision and efficiency. Its modular software platform supports cataract, refractive (including lenticule extraction), and therapeutic procedures, scaling with your practice as it grows.
For a non-laser option, Staar Surgical implantable collamer lenses (ICLs) offer a reversible solution for myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. With over 99% of patients saying they would have the procedure again,² ICLs empower cataract surgeons to expand their offering and help reduce patients’ reliance on glasses.

1stQ AddOn
Cataract and refractive lens exchange (RLE) patients are educated and have high expectations. There are several situations where a 1stQ AddOn secondary supplementary sulcus ‘piggyback’ lens may be required to achieve the best outcome.
1stQ AddOn lenses (Medicontur Group) have very high rotational stability in the sulcus due to the non-torque four-point fixation design. These lenses are available in monofocal, monofocal toric, trifocal, trifocal toric, and high add magnifier options.
They allow precise correction of residual spherical and astigmatic refractive errors via the 0.25D spherical power equivalent steps and up to 11.0D cylinder powers. Trifocal upgrades are a nice option for pseudophakic patients, and safe reversibility of trifocality is available via the planned dual lens procedure.

Vision-R 800
The Vision-R 800 takes precision to a new level with digital infinite refraction.
This cutting-edge technology enables 0.01D refraction, thanks to two key innovations:
• A patented liquid crystal lens module that reinvents refraction by simultaneously controlling sphere, cyl, and axis with the touch of a button, and
• Patented smart programme algorithms that automatically change the liquid lens based on the patient’s response, delivering fast and concise responses.
Patients are guided through an immersive, more natural visual process that keeps them engaged while reducing fatigue. Refractive outcomes are displayed in real life simulations so that patients can ultimately see the difference for themselves.

ZEISS Medical
ZEISS reached two significant laser refractive surgery milestones this year: 10 million eyes treated with ZEISS small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) globally and the introduction of the Hyperopic SMILE Pro procedure to the Australian and New Zealand markets.
This procedure builds on the established SMILE Pro technique and is specifically designed to address hyperopia, offering an alternative to hyperopic laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and expanding options for patients seeking vision correction.
With treatment ranges of up to +7D, ZEISS SMILE Pro enables surgeons to provide lenticule extraction to a broader spectrum of patients. The procedure is performed using the ZEISS Visumax 800 femtosecond laser, which includes advanced features such as the OcuLign pattern rotation system.

Alcon’s Unity VCS
Alcon’s Vision Suite – the new Unity VCS – is a next generation single platform for vitreoretinal and cataract surgery that maximises space and creates efficiencies for nurses and staff by enabling faster turnover time and faster calibration ahead of the next case.1
Unity VCS and Unity CS leverage a novel phacoemulsification modality to deliver up to two times faster nucleus removal^ with 40% less energy* into the eye.2 In vitreoretinal advancements, the new technology offers cutting speeds of up to 30,000 cuts per minute.#3 The platform offers surgical stability and efficiency with a unique proprietary fluidics system.4
Interoperability also plays a key role in efficiency. The ability to move data from one machine to the next and enable connectivity for preventative maintenance and remote service helps minimise downtime and ensure smoother operations.
Multiple functionalities in a single system reduce capital expenditure and ongoing maintenance costs.
