Paralympics Australia Call for Ophthalmologists

Paralympics Australia is seeking ophthalmologists to classify athletes with vision impairment, as it works to establish a regular pipeline of pre-competition assessments for Australian para-athletes.

Athletes seeking an international visual impairment classification must undergo ophthalmological assessment, with medical diagnostic documentation completed ahead of the event.

The next classification event is set to take place in November, with places available for ophthalmologists wanting to help prepare Australian Paralympians.

Paralympics Australia hopes to run international vision impairment classification events on an annual basis. To support this, the organisation is developing a database of experienced ophthalmologists and offering short upskilling sessions to equip them with the knowledge to complete documentation accurately and efficiently.
