EssilorLuxottica has been named in the ‘Time100 Most Influential Companies’ list for 2025 in the category of ‘Innovators’. The global eye care company joins a group of 20 others in that category, including Le Creuset, Nintendo, and Alibaba.
Writing for Time, journalist Ashley Mateo said EssilorLuxottica “is bringing eyewear’s tech potential into focus”.
“Ray-Ban’s second-gen Meta smart glasses, which allow wearers to snap pics, send texts, make calls, and translate languages (among other functions), have sold over two million pairs.”
Additionally, she highlighted EssilorLuxottica’s “innovative Nuance Audio ‘hearing glasses’ – with built-in directional microphones and speakers”. The audio glasses were approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration earlier this year as over-the-counter hearing aids and went on sale in the US and Europe. They are expected to be available in Australia later this year.
EssilorLuxottica is also expanding into eye care, having acquired Optegra, which operates over 70 eye hospitals and diagnostic facilities across Europe.
“The company’s strategic vision, it seems, involves bringing everything involving eyes under one roof,” Ms Mateo wrote for Time.
To determine the Time100 Most Influential Companies list, the editors invited suggestions and applications from across sectors, surveyed correspondents around the world, and sought advice from outside experts. Rather than looking at a “single data point or financial metric… we looked at a mosaic of qualities, studying impact, innovation, ambition, and success”.
