Audio Glasses Boost Hearing

Two new studies – including one conducted in Australia – have demonstrated significant improvements in hearing performance with Nuance Audio Glasses, EssilorLuxottica has announced. The results on the all-in-one open-ear hearing solution, which is built into smart eyewear and intended for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss, were presented in Germany during the European Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians Congress in January.

The National Acoustics Laboratories in New South Wales and Western University in Canada collectively evaluated both controlled laboratory performance and
real-world listening experiences, demonstrating consistent benefits for users in everyday communication.1 Reported outcomes from the Australian study included a clinically meaningful gain in speech-in-noise performance. Seventy per cent of participants reported improved communication ability after only three hours of real-world use, while 84–95% reported their top communication goals were met.

The Canadian study evaluated Nuance Audio Glasses in controlled yet realistic noise conditions, designed to simulate daily listening environments. Results demonstrated a 29% improvement in speech understanding in challenging acoustic conditions, and significant reduction in listening effort.

“One insight stands out across both studies: users prefer to wear Nuance Audio Glasses in the real, noisy conversations that matter most to them,” said Dr Tami Harel, Chief of Audiology of Nuance Audio, EssilorLuxottica.

“These results mark an important achievement in terms of the post-market clinical validation of the product for early-stage hearing support," she said.
