OPSM to Extend Remote Optometry

OPSM plans to widen the number of sites offering remote optometry, after a successful pilot program in Western Australia last year. The service offers a remote comprehensive eye exam, where the patient is in a conveniently located practice, accompanied step by step by a trained technician, and the optometrist is remote. The technology has been trialled in OPSM South Hedland in Albany, and Kalgoorlie.

“We are very satisfied with the initial results, where we saw strong favourable reception and adoption by optometrists and technicians and collected exceedingly positive feedback from patients,” said Carl James, Senior Vice-President Store Operations at EssilorLuxottica Australia New Zealand.

“The technology has performed seamlessly, thanks to the revolutionary software that managed the consultation and through which all the clinical data was collected, transmitted, and stored. The software also facilitated the video interaction between the patient and the optometrist, while providing interactive visualisations of eye conditions.”

OPSM conducts the consultations without Medicare rebate.
