AREDS3 Vitamins Launched in US

Bausch and Lomb has launched PreserVision AREDS3 eye vitamins in the United States.

The supplement retains the full AREDS2 formula – lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C and E, and zinc – and adds a B-vitamin complex comprising thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), vitamin B6, biotin (B7), folate (B9), and vitamin B12.1

Bausch and Lomb said the addition of the B-vitamins was informed by a narrative review published in

Ophthalmology and Therapy in December last year, which synthesised findings from more than 20 human studies involving approximately 30,000 individuals.² The review cited evidence from large randomised clinical trials, finding a statistically significant association between specific B-vitamin supplementation and reduced risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The company said the formulation achieves two-times greater absorption of lutein and zeaxanthin compared to the original PreserVision AREDS2 formula. The product is not available in Australia or New Zealand.
