With ageing populations in all western countries, these numbers are projected to increase substantially. Hence, the management of the cataract patient remains a major public health concern. Cataract surgery is deemed to be safe and predictable, particularly when performed by an experienced surgeon. There are, however, challenges that can arise in the immediate post-operative period that relate to specific patient characteristics (general health issues).
